Canterbury fullback Will Hopoate believes his decision not to play NRL on Sundays due to his faith has contributed to his career-best form this season.

Hopoate played his first game in three weeks in Monday's heartbreaking loss to ladder-leaders Cronulla, and was awarded players' player after running for 191 metres.

And while he was dropped from the NSW State of Origin side for the first game of this year's series, Hopoate has returned to the kind of form that first won him a Blues jumper in 2011.
