Fit Morris charged for finals run

Josh Morris won't admit that twin Brett is faster but he does agree he's made 2014 grand finalists Canterbury a more potent attacking team.

Finally free of the hamstring issue that has plagued his first season at Belmore, fullback Brett enjoyed arguably his strongest outing in Bulldogs colours in last week's romp over Parramatta.

The former St George-Illawarra winger ran for a game-high 225 metres and at one stage outpaced his identical sibling on his way to the tryline.

Asked whether Brett had him covered for speed, centre Josh joked: "Nah, that's not the case. I told him I was only jogging.

"It was good to see Brett in the clear. Obviously coming back from that hamstring injury, I was waiting to see him get in the clear and see if he'd make it.

"(But) he had a good stride there and it looked good to watch beside him."

Last year the Bulldogs fell from third spot to as low as eighth in the post-Origin period, before recovering strongly to reach the grand final against South Sydney.

And while the side are currently sitting precariously in sixth spot, Josh said the team was in a better shape to make a finals surge than the corresponding stage last season.

"We're probably in a better position. We'd like to play some consistent footy going into the finals and get a top four spot. That's definitely the goal," he said.

"But in saying that, if we finish seventh or eighth, we know that we can make the grand final like we did last year as well."

Part of Josh's confidence stems from a more threatening backline this season, which now boasts twin brother Brett and the competition's equal tryscoring leader in Curtis Rona.

"(Brett) and Curtis, I think you've seen what Curtis has been able to do this year. If you give him half a chance, he can manage to contort his body in ways that I can't to get down for a try," Josh said.

"That's something that we've got this year in Brett and Curtis. We've got two great finishers and they've been made every post a winner for us this year."
