Hodkinson future in doubt as Bulldogs win

  • Hodkinson future in doubt as Bulldogs win

After State Of Origin duty, Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs coach Des Hasler made the decision to rest both Brett Morris and number 7 Trent Hodkinson for the clash at home against the Penrith Panthers. With much talk about  Hodkinson's future at the club being undecided yet, it gave dogs fans a chance to once again see the connect in the halves between Josh Reynolds and Moses Mbye and after a great performance and seeing the Bulldogs came home with the two points, the answer to whether or not Trent Hodkinson will remain a Bulldogs became even more unclear.

When asked the question in the press conference after the win, coach Des Halser once again didn't clear up any information on the halve back and whether or not he will play in the return to Belmore clash next Monday night against the Melbourne Storm. Will Reynolds and Mbye start again? Will Hodkinson and Mbye start and have Reynolds be the impact player off the bench as we saw a couple weeks ago against the St George Illawarra Dragons. Many speculate that Hasler will have all three players on a rotation system and see how that works and if unsuccessful, we all know Des Hasler is a coach that has many tricks up his sleeve which is why he is known as one of the best coaches in the NRL today.

Now to play the third and decisive Origin game in Brisbane in a couple weeks time, Trent Hodkinson must put all focus on his football and return to the form that we have all seen in the past couple of seasons. He must ignore the headlines, ignore the rumours and most of all ignore the negativity and show the rugby league fans why he is the number 7 for New South Wales and why he deserves to remain at Belmore. Hodkinson is a brilliant player and we all get into a slump in our game. With his last performance which was last weeks Origin II game, Trent played great football and set up the eventual match winner which was scored by Josh Dugan. Trent Hodkinson is a quality player and if he decides to depart the club at seasons end it will be a big loss to the club however if he remains its a bonus for the dogs but a necessary system must come into place for Josh Reynolds, Moses Mbye and himself.
